Coffee Beans FAQ
Which Ground Central coffee should I choose?
Choose Midtown Express if you like a darker, chocolatey cup or make espresso and milk drinks at home. Choose Downtown Local if you prefer a smoother medium roast for drip, pour over or cold brew.
Should I buy whole bean or ground coffee?
Buy whole bean if you own a grinder: beans stay fresh longer and you can match the grind to your brewer, which matters most for espresso. Buy ground if you want coffee that's ready to brew straight from the bag. Both blends are the same price either way.
What is the best Ground Central coffee for espresso?
Midtown Express. It's the blend we use for espresso in our cafés. For espresso at home, buy it whole bean and grind it fine just before brewing.
Can I use Ground Central coffee beans for cold brew?
Yes. Downtown Local is the bean we slow-steep for cold brew in our cafés, and it comes out smooth, rich and naturally sweet. Use a coarse grind and steep it in cold water in the fridge for 12 to 18 hours.
How much coffee is in a Ground Central bag?
Each bag holds 12 oz (340 g) of coffee, enough for roughly 30 cups of drip coffee or 20 double espresso shots.
How much coffee should I use per cup?
For drip, pour over or French press, start with about 2 tablespoons (10 g) of ground coffee for every 6 oz (180 ml) of water, then adjust to taste: more coffee for a stronger cup, less for a lighter one. For espresso, use about 18 g of finely ground coffee for a double shot and aim for about 36 g of espresso in the cup in 25 to 30 seconds. If the shot runs faster, grind finer; if it runs slower, grind coarser.
Where do Ground Central coffee beans come from?
Our blends combine specialty coffees from Latin America and Africa, and they're created exclusively for Ground Central by La Colombe Coffee Workshop.
How should I store coffee beans?
Keep them in the sealed bag or an airtight container, away from light, heat and moisture, and not in the fridge. Grind just before brewing and finish the bag within a few weeks of opening for the best flavor.
