How to Brew

Great coffee at home comes down to a few simple things: fresh beans, the right grind, good water and a little patience. Pick your brewer and follow along, step by step.

Coffee tips

Freshness

Keep your beans in the sealed bag or an airtight container, away from light, heat and moisture, and out of the fridge. Grind just before you brew and finish the bag within a few weeks of opening.

Brewing

  • Start with fresh, filtered water. A cup of coffee is almost all water, so it shows.
  • Grind fine for short brews like espresso and coarse for long ones like French press and cold brew.
  • Brew between 195°F and 205°F, just off the boil.
  • Use about 2 tbsp (10 g) of coffee for every 6 oz of water, then adjust to taste.

Pro-tip

Use a kitchen scale. Weighing your coffee and water instead of scooping is the easiest way to brew a great cup every time.
